Coffee comes from ‘beans’ but these are not true beans as coffee beans are not legumes.  Coffee is roasted and most of it is processed.  The decaffeinating process can be pretty noxious.  Not a food available during the course of human evolution. The environmental effects of coffee plantations can include displacement of native plants and destruction of rainforest ecosystems.

Fairtrade coffee is just a con so consumers in rich countries can feel good - and not have to think about - the way coffee farming destroys local cultures, locks individuals into the bottom of the international globalized economy.
